PM Urges Nations a Trustworthy Partnership at the 13th Asia-Europe Summit

PHNOM PENH: Speaking at the 13th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Summit hosted by the Cambodian Parliament today, Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged Asia-Europe nations to build mutual trust, especially on security and stability issues, through a strong multilateral mechanism in order to solve common problems together.

He has added that in the current geopolitical competition system, developed countries always put pressure on smaller states to choose a politic side or loyalty. However, the Prime Minister believes that only through a trustworthy partnership with multilateral mechanisms the world ensures global peace, stability, progress and prosperity.

On the topic of significant global subjects, such as the climate crises, Prime Minister Hun Sen has stated the world does not have much time to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, proposed at the COP26 in Glasgow this month. He added that only through mutual trust and solidarity a sustainable development goal can be achieved in time.

"On this basis, Cambodia is committed to adhering the principles of mutual respect, mutual learning, understanding and mutual benefit to build a necessary foundation," he said. "Without a strong multilateral mechanism, we will not be able to solve all these problems together."

The 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP11) was held online on Tuesday by the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia under the theme “Strengthening Parliamentary Partnership for Peace and Development” and "Sustainable Development During and After the Covid-19 Crisis." The meeting is a forum for diplomatic relations between member states and promotes mutual understanding among Asian and European nations.
